Jim Caviezel Biography

Jim Caviezel Biography
Jim Caviezel (born on September 26, 1968) is an American film actor. He is sometimes credited as Jim Caviezel.

Jim Caviezel was born in Mount Vernon, Washington to Roman Catholic parents Jim and Maggie; he has three sisters Anne, Amy, Erin and a brother, Timothy. Caviezel's surname is of Romansh Swiss origin; his father is half Slovak (maternal) and half Romansh Swiss (paternal), and his mother is an Irish American.

After appearances in Wyatt Earp and G.I. Jane, Caviezel scored a breakthrough performance in Terrence Malick's The Thin Red Line. He was originally cast to play Cyclops/Scott Summers in X-Men (2000) but dropped out due to a scheduling conflict with his other film, Frequency. Caviezel is perhaps best associated with his role as Jesus in Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ (2004), but he has also starred in such mainstream Hollywood films as Angel Eyes, Frequency and The Count of Monte Cristo (2002).

Jim was offered to be the spokesman for a fashion line called "Heavenly" after the success of The Passion of the Christ but he refused, citing that it would be an insult to people who felt the film had something meaningful to offer audiences.

In 2004, the 6'2" Jim expressed much interest in gaining the role of Superman/Clark Kent for the upcoming Superman Returns (2006) film, even mentioning that he would dedicate his performance to the late Christopher Reeve. Ultimately, he was rejected by director Bryan Singer, who complained that Jim was too well known and too famous after starring as Jesus in The Passion of the Christ (2004). The part went to newcomer Brandon Routh instead.

Jim is a devout Roman Catholic and has publicly spoken at religious venues since the release of The Passion. On March 19, 2005 Jim Caviezel was the main speaker at the first Catholic Men's Conference in Boston. Jim stated that he only chose to speak at the conference because he liked Boston Archbishop Sean O'Malley. Jim Caviezel's wife Kerri, also a devout Roman Catholic, is a teacher and an accomplished flutist. The two are active in their parish in the Conejo Valley in California. Kerri supports a charity for single women with children and also volunteers with the Detention Ministry at a camp for incarcerated youth in Malibu, California. Jim Caviezel prays the Rosary daily and has a strong devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Jim is a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity at the University of Washington and is also a Minnesota Vikings fan.
